I hear you!

That was me 5 years ago when my youngest daughter was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s, and autoimmune disease that affects the thyroid. We had to remove gluten, dairy and soy in one fell swoop!

It felt like there was nothing left to eat. Well, other than kale and quinoa, but who wants to live on that right??

I figured out that if this was going to be a long-term, sustainable lifestyle change, which it had to be, I had to be smart about it. First step was to win the family over. It was going to be enough of a challenge without having them fighting me every step of the way.

I won’t lie, it was tough at first – because I was doing it on my own. It was all trial and error. Finding suitable substitutes, figuring out which of the gazillion gluten-free flours was going to work for which recipe, finding a milk that wouldn’t make my coffee insipid, and coming up with recipes that my family would actually eat (and didn’t have chained to the stove for hours every night, or would need us to remortgage the house to afford it!).

My doctor said eating gluten-free is just a fad!

Non-coeliac gluten sensitivity is REAL and often goes undiagnosed due to it’s vague symptoms like stubborn weight gain, brain fog, low immunity, fatigue, trouble concentrating and even behavioural difficulties in kids. Gluten-free diets have also been shown to be beneficial for anyone with an autoimmune disease like Hashimoto’s, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus and other conditions such as Autism, IBS and IBD.

What formal qualifications do you hold?

I have a Diploma of Applied Science from the University of Queensland, a Heath Coaching Certification from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, and an Advanced Diploma of Nutritional Medicine and Advanced Diploma of Western Herbal Medicine from the Australasian College of Natural Therapies.

I am registered with ATMS (Australian Traditional Medicine Society) which requires that I maintain professional insurance, a current first aid certificate, and that I complete continued professional education every year to ensure that my skills remain up to date.
